Hints for Better Bobbin Lace
- Do your 6 or 8 legged spiders seem to have shorter legs on the south end than they do on the north?
One of our former members, Chris Banyard, gave this help: Give the southern legs (the ones coming OUT from the center) an extra twist. This helps even them up.- Do your Danish or other unspangled bobbins just roll around too much?
Use a covercloth of terrycloth -- such as a finger or hand towel. This will slow up the rolling.- Have you ever been frustrated by metallic threads that just keep unwinding from the bobbins?
Use a bobbin that is about 1/2 full of any other thread. Tie the end of your metallic thread to this -- then wind. You will find that the metallic seats itself down into the other thread and there will be less tendency for it to constantly unwind. This is especially helpful when you need only a small amount of the metallic thread.- Are you doing tape lace on a flat or cookie pillow? Are your bobbins rolling and threads catching on pins as you follow your twisting-turning path?
Make a special covercloth. Take a terrycloth hand towel and stitch a piece of smooth cloth to the underside. Then, in the middle, cut a circle 2 1/2 to 3 inches in diameter through both layers. Zigzag stitch around this circle. Now place the hole over the area you are working and move your covercloth along as needed. The terrycloth will keep the bobbins from rolling and the smooth underside will keep the pushed in pins from catching.

Do You Just Belong? (Author Unknown)
Are you an active member, the kind that would be missed?
Or are you just contented that your name is on the list?
Do you attend the meetings and mingle with the flock?
Or do you stay at home, and criticize and knock?
Do you take an active part to help the work along?
Or are you satisfied to only "Just Belong"?
Do you do your part with your hand upon the stick?
Or do you leave the work to others, then talk about the clique?
Think this over, you know right from wrong;
Are you an active member, or do you "Just Belong"?
